For non-technical people, building a website used to be a headache. You had two choices - try to learn HTML or buy a program like Dreamweaver or FrontPage. Now this process can be freely automated with a blog or CMS site, but for the DIY web designer that prefers a blank canvas approach, KompoZer is here.
KompoZer is sewn from the fabric of NVU - a web authoring system released in 2005 but unfortunately not updated since. KompoZer took the reins and overhauled the system, and it is now built upon the popular extensible Mozilla engine. Like other Mozilla apps, it has a tabbed interface and is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac.
If you've seen or used Dreamweaver before, KompoZer won't feel too foreign. With a great site manager, CSS editor, color picker, and so many other features, this WYSIWYG web authoring system is a very capable competitor. Version 0.8 is currently in development, which adds a split view editor and more.
