You've probably heard of Hulu by now. But let's make sure you, Alec Baldwin, and I are on the same page. Hulu is a Flash-based online TV smörgåsbord, legally serving up many current TV shows and a good chunk of past ones too. With free content, unobtrusive (often 30 seconds or less) commercials, and other perks, you can start preparing the eulogy for TV torrents.
Hulu became available to the public in March 2008 and expanded quickly, now partnered with most major TV networks. Because of its free (ad-supported) content model, many pay-to-play and premium networks (HBO, Showtime, etc.) have resisted so far, even though resistance is clearly futile.
So hopefully you're sold by now. It's free, after all. The average user can access Hulu content simply by visiting Hulu.com, but if you're looking for a media center, easily navigable, remote controllable, TV replacing solution, you'll want Hulu Desktop.
Hulu Desktop was Hulu's answer to Boxee, XBMC, and company integrating Hulu into their media center apps. There was a loud but brief uproar when Hulu pulled its plug from Boxee, but shortly after, Hulu enlightened the world with its own home theater app - for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Windows Media Center user? Windows 7 users, check out Hulu Desktop Integration. Other Media Center version users, there are other options available.
No home media center? Hulu Desktop is still a streamlined way to access Hulu content using a keyboard and/or mouse.
