FileZilla : A modern take on an old protocol

Bookmark and Share

We all use an FTP client on occasion, even if we're not aware of it. Especially if you download a lot, chances are you're grabbing some of those files off of FTP servers. Web browsers are actually the most used 'FTP clients', but those who need more robust FTP access use dedicated FTP clients like FileZilla.

The open-source FileZilla FTP Client is the best in its class. Feature-packed and frequently updated, it supports all the standard protocols and platforms.

One of my favorite features is the ability to remotely edit files. You can specify external file editors and viewers, then open and edit those files directly from the client - FileZilla will prompt you automatically if you want to save and upload those changes.

Note that while FileZilla also develops an open-source FTP server, it is not up to par with some other products like freeFTPd/freeSSHd.
