Before comparison tools like WinMerge existed, people spent countless hours manually comparing different version documents or code. Luckily that era is over. This process is now incredibly simple, and you can compare and combine these different versions in no time at all. WinMerge especially excels in this department.
It seems almost too good to be true. Open WinMerge, point to two different files or directories containing files, and click OK. In moments you are looking at a side by side highlighted comparison of those files. Then all you have to do is click highlighted differences and copy them to the opposite side. Files are automatically backed up in case you save changes you shouldn't have. Sometimes simplicity is such a beautiful thing.
WinMerge works best with code, but plug-ins are included that can compare Word and Excel files. I'd like to see OpenOffice.org support, and a 7-Zip plug-in that will work with anything version of 7-Zip (currently limited to v4.57).
